We didn't care that our folks -or even grandparents- had watched it. There are actually some episodes that I know I have never seen before and I've loved seeing them for the first time. These discs are super inexpensive and the same quality as the discs in this box set, but with the 13 substandard prints replaced. The mother that didn't want her son laughed at is now humiliated as she is in a very degrading position on the stage. Despite that, they were always trying to wring out a laugh, no matter what the target. The sound is not really that bad for early sound films. Spanky's mother fumbles trying to dislodge the hook as grandma delievers the coup de grase and pulls down and jolts the curtain to the top of the theater ripping her dress right off her.
Washee Ironee and Bear Shooters have edits! The quality of the video doesn't match the look of the 80 films. I recommend this collection to any Little Rascal fan. As I watched some of the episodes from my old copies and this new set, side by side, the most noticeable thing is the size of the film. Nonetheless, viewers should be prepared for stereotypes, all common to the era and without any real malice, but hardly pleasant. Up next are three audio commentaries: author Bann on Teacher's Pet and Fly My Kite, and Ward on Wild Poses. Participant: Starring the Our Gang characters, including Spanky, Alfalfa, Stymie, Darla, Porky, Buckwheat, Butch, Wheezer, Chubby, Waldo, etc. I compared it to other releases.
The other is the old standby of the comic misunderstanding, as they think their teacher left, but she's only changing her name because she's getting married. Vivendi has reissued all of the discs from this set, except for the bonus features disc. The scene where the skip occurs makes no sense now. These are fascinating whether you give a damn about the films or not, as they are a great look at child celebrities and what that life is like. His natural timing and reactions were perfect, allowing him to sell jokes that would leave other kids hanging in the wind.
Will treasure these for many years. It also features numerous contributions of various types from noted film historians, an additional 10 silent shorts from Hal Roach's personal library and several documentaries. Basically, whatever the story required, is what the kids could be, though they are usually from the working class or below, free to roam the streets looking for fun or profit. This amazing 8disc set contains a collectible booklet, loads of nostalgic bonus footage, photos and much more! There are some minor cropping issue also and I think I counted 16 or 17 Blackhawk shorts including one silent in this so-so collection. I did extensive research online and in stores. On the other end of the spectrum is the wholly unlikable Alfalfa, who almost became famous in spite of himself, as his lousy singing, odd look and annoying personality made him nearly into a villain.
This amazing 8-disc set contains a collectible booklet, loads of nostalgic bonus footage, photos and much more! It is great to get all of these classics all together. How Genius Entertainment could make worse copies than old tv copies, I'll never know! It is usually the way of the Our Gang comidies that the villan is taken care of in the end so this short delivers the villan in a most humbeling manner. Secondly, the episodes are presented in chronological order. This is a great deal and I am extremely pleased with the seller. This collections contains all 80 of the original Little Rascals theatrical talkies in their entirety; fully Remastered, Restored and Uncut.
Admittedly, it was fun to see these kids get their comeuppance as they try to pull a fast one, especially if the lovely Miss Crabtree June Marlowe is involved, but after two or three such attempts, you know what's going to happen. The Little Rascals are one of the most important short film subjects in the history of film and they deserve better than this! In this set, you get a lot of memorable films, but if you want the best, they are easy to pick out. Spanky is busy dodging peashooters and trying to get his lines out. The later films are much improved, with clear, clean dialogue and strong special effects, as well as effective musical scores. Throughout these 80 shows, 3 feature full audio commentaries, which are quite interesting and informative. There are no audio options, no subtitles and no closed captioning. Would love to have had all the ailments on this set as well since many of those are just as good if not funnier than the 'talkies' on this set.
His mom is forcing him to stay in and reherse his lines, the gang comes up with a plan to sabotage his act and end his acting days. When Vivendi reissued the discs, they were unaware of the problem, so the error is on the new discs too. Spanky's grandmother understands his act has turned into a comedic farce and she laughs along with his stage misadventures,on the other hand Spanky's mother doesn't see any humor in the laughter and wants it stopped and her son off the stage. The only other issue is with an inconsistent brightness that flickers throughout the films. All of the edited material hacked out back in the early 70's has been restored.
Spank jumps to his feet to save his mother. I have compared various prints and cannot find anything missing! Included among this complete collection of uncut, remastered and restored episodes. At different times, the group has its own theater, with a working curtain, or a makeshift firetruck that they can ride through the streets. No one proved that more than Spanky, who was brilliant in just about every way, playing the de facto leader of the gang, despite being the smallest kid. These Little Rascal episodes are Great entertainment! To my surprise, overall, the set looks very nice, as there are some fantastic looking films here, especially in the later discs, to go along with some less clear, yet still impressive efforts. In his spare time, he enjoys watching hockey, writing and spending time with his wife, daughter and puppy. By Laurence Jennings-October 17, 2011 I have been wanting to purchase a complete collection of The Little Rascals for some time now.
Take a trip back into time with The Little Rascals The Complete Collection. Yes, the collection includes all the Hal Roach shorts, as well as three only three? This collections contains all 80 of the original Little Rascals theatrical talkies in their entirety; fully Remastered, Restored and Uncut. The show's strength is, at all times, the kids, whether it's disturbingly adult fat kid Chubbsy-Ubsy, naive Farina and little Wheezer, or more memorable later stars like Stymie and Butch. The sad part is that we will be deprived of the original title artwork. I cannot believe Genius Entertainment is allowed to falsely advertise this set and charge such a premium price for a dvd set that is in worse shape than my old television copies that I bought over the years. If you decide to purchase a currently offered collection, you'll be fine, no problems to be found.
