The runtime of the 3D version was shorter than the original, cut to 155 minutes, and released amidst moderate fanfare and fared positively critically and commercially. The film was converted into 3D and released on 12 December 2012 as Sivaji 3D. It also became the first Indian film to use Dolby Atmos surround sound technology. The partners kidnap Sumathi and imprison and torture Rajasekaran, and it is up to Shankar and Guru to rescue and re-unite their father and mother. Rajasekaran's niece encounters Shankar in Delhi and recommends him to manage her uncle's estate in Kashmir.

Nambiar, who are after a valuable necklace stolen from a temple in Delhi, which they believe is now in Rajasekaran's possession.
